The client sought to evaluate the feasibility for travelers to reload their new public transport cards (OV-pas) self-checkout registers in retail stores.

In collaboration with the client, we first developed a practical solution leveraging our industry experience and deep market knowledge, incl. use cases, process analysis, and high-level architecture. Then, we worked with all relevant stakeholders (retailers, terminal providers, etc.) to determine the impact of each process step.

The key outcome was that reloading the public transport card using the solution proposed by us (leveraging NFC, among other technologies) is feasible and offers several advantages compared to the original solution, such as better alignment with retailer preferences and lower costs.
